Dear Parishioners and Friends,
As this Pandemic continues to worsen and our activities are being limited we know that freedom to do what is right and good is not inhibited. Isn’t that what true freedom is, the freedom to choose to do the good. True freedom is never just to do what we want to do when we want to do it. “Freedom is the power, rooted in reason and will, to act or not to act, to do this or that, and so to perform deliberate actions on one’s own responsibility. By free will one shapes one’s own life. Human freedom is a force for growth and maturity in truth and goodness; it attains its perfection when directed toward God, our beatitude.” Catechism of the Catholic Church #1731. As we submit to do what is good we choose to bind ourselves to God. This choosing to do the good is not just for ourselves but for the common good, the good of others.
We have been asked to restrict our movements to that which is necessary and to keep a distance from one another. In light of these directives our parish office will only be open for appointments that are scheduled, please call 202-362-3323 to reach a member of the staff or a priest. Church will remain open from 7:30 AM to 7:30 PM. Please be sure to keep a safe distance from one another in Church. Many of our staff members will work from home. We continue to pray and look for ways to serve all of our members.
It looks as if we will be able to live stream services on Facebook, thanks to Fr. Jack, follow the parish site at annunciationdc.org. Services will not be open to the public. We plan to celebrate Palm Sunday liturgy on Sunday April 5 at 10 AM. There will be no Blessing of Palms at this time; we will offer blest palms at a later date. Monday thru Wednesday of Holy Week, we will have Morning and Evening Prayer at 8:30 AM and 6:00 PM respectively. Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday Morning Prayer will be at 9:00 AM. You can find these prayers at https://www.ibreviary.org/en/, or print out your own prayers at https://www.ebreviary.com/ebreviary/ebreviary.nsf/ppprayers!OpenPage.
On Holy Thursday Mass of the Lords Supper will be celebrated at 7:30 PM with a brief time for adoration at the end of Mass. Good Friday Passion of the Lord will be streamed at 7:30 PM. Holy Saturday Easter Vigil will be offered at 8 PM. Easter Sunday Masses will be at 8:30 and 11:00 AM. Each of these Liturgies will be modified from their prescribed form to meet with the guidelines set by the Congregation of Worship and the Archdiocese of Washington. Again, none of these services are open to the public.
Fr. Jack and I thank you for your prayers and understanding. This has got to be the strangest time in our lives. We miss you so very much and long for the day we can celebrate in Church with one another. If possible please continue to support the Church and its ministries through your contributions. The Good Friday collection goes to the support of the holy sites in Jerusalem. We at Annunciation depend heavily on your Easter offering. God bless you and may this be a time of deep Prayer and strengthening of Faith.
